Andy Dandy - BORN IN JAMAICA, RAISED IN SWEDEN AND SHIPPED TO POLAND
Well honestly I’ve never been to Jamaica. but I spent a week in Gdansk one summer. So I’m very Swedish without the “Folkdräkt”.
But my entertaining career started when I came down to Badgastein, Austria to attend a Travel Guide course for STS and brought my guitar with me. This was in 1996. I had just finished the musical Canterbury Tales in my hometown Lidköping and felt the need of some adventure. Got a job as a troubadour at Salzburger Hof and played there every Apres Ski without any PA-system, only my guitar and my voice. In Badgastein I started playing with one of the STS guides and we formed a duo called Lucky Losers. Lucky Losers started playing in Mallorca, some more seasons in Bad Gastein at Haeggbloms Bar and in Ayia Napa, Cyprus at the Pavlinia Hotel. Five years later Lucky Losers was buried as a project and Andy Dandy started playing by himself. Same success, only one person less. Have played at weddings, apres ski, clubs, corporate events, pubs etc. Over 12 years of experience will not let you down and every gig is different.
I play about 10 days a month on the Tallink Silja Cruise Ships since 2004 where I’ve been appointed as one of the top three entertainers in the pub. During the winter I play in Hemsedal, Norway, at Skogstad Hotel and this summer I’m starting to play at Saras Telt in Oslo, Norway. I also do Corporate gigs. I try not to work too much, about two weeks a month is enough
Just a troubador? Don’t really play Bellman, Taube and all the Cornelis songs. But of course I have some “dansband”, some Lasse Berghagen and of course Kungens Man (“Maria går på vägen ...”). I would rather call myself an acoustic entertainer. I adapt my music to the audience. That’s why I don’t have a playlist. I make the playlist up as I go. When I play for a mixed audience I play mixed songs from artists as Gloria Gaynor, Jason Mraz, Johnny Cash, Oasis etc. Postgirobygget is a big favourite of mine when I do gigs in Norway. But I think Hey Baby is the biggest sing a long hit. It works everytime.
For me the connection with the audience is very important. I try to make the gig very entertaining by changing lyrics, doing bad jokes and some storytelling.
